We are looking for Technical Lead . The department is responsible for ensuring that all produce supplied to Customers meets Specifications, Food Safety and Legal requirements within Commercial and Operational constraints.

Areas of Responsibility

Quality Systems Specific Responsibilities

• To ensure adequately trained resources are in place to meet QA system demands
• To maintain and develop company Quality Systems
• To comply with procedures as outlined in the Company’s quality statement
• Completion of accurate records for all quality tests and checks complete. Ensuring such records are stored in a safe location where they can be readily identified and retrieved.

Compliance

• Ensure the company complies with all technical requirements of its customers and to maintain a record of any deviations, quality reports and relevant documentation
• Spearhead management of all technical audits including BRC, system audits, quality audits, technical audits and facility audits.  Communicate with external quality assurance officers during on-site inspections
• Resolve any non-conformances with support from Line Managers and escalate non-conformances to appropriate directors if not resolved.
• Liaise with Productions Supervisors and work closely with production and quality control teams to ensure all legal standards are met.
• Continuously review company procedures and policies, and ensure The Managing Director and all relevant Line Managers are kept aware of changes in requirements, specifications or legislation that may affect the company’s operations

Suppliers

• Set requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitor their compliance.
• Approve correct raw materials that meet specification or reject defective with respect to the company’s quality standards and maintain records on supplier performance and compliance.
• Provide all suppliers with production specifications and assess their technical compliance to the company’s quality assurance system as well as the expectations of each customer.
• Maintain records of testing, information and technical requirements of each product line.

 Customer Specific Responsibilities

• Checking that the product meets the requirements of the customer’s specifications regarding labelling, packaging, quality, weight and colour etc.
• Checking that all products are dispatched at the correct temperature in accordance with the customer’s requirement.
• Immediate notification of any non-conformance in quality, legality or hygiene to The Managing Director, all relevant Line Managers, and the Technical & Quality department.
• Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes. Share information and ensure production staff comprehend these processes and quality expectations for each product line.
• Devise, maintain and review specifications for all customers’ products and identify deviations from the company’s quality standards.
• Appraise customers’ requirements and make sure they are satisfied.

Operations Responsibilities

• Ensure daily job sheets are completed in full and all according checks are accurate.
• Ensure sampling is taking place to guidelines.
• Completion of monthly hygiene checks
• Conducting Quality Audits to ensure that the packhouse and facilities conform to their requirements.
• Ensure all Intake and dispatch are monitored. Quantities, Quality, Truck temperatures are recorded on Intake & Dispatch sheets.
• Assisting and guiding staff with information and feedback on quality, legal and hygiene requirements.
• Inspect procedures of the entire production cycle to ensure they are efficient and comply with safety standards.
• Oversee and monitor all production activities that affect quality in liaison with quality control personnel.
• Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output (Inspect final output and compare properties to requirements)
• Educate and train all production personnel on quality requirements, ensure they maintain a good knowledge of all products and provide regular update/refresher training to production personnel.

Report

• Provide a weekly brief on issues arising with customers and suppliers
• Provide regular feedback to Supply Chain, Production Manager and The Managing Director on non-conformances received from customers and issues arising with suppliers.

People Specific Responsibilities

• To ensure all quality controllers receive training and ongoing development.
• To participate in the Company’s induction programme to ensure that all people within the operations department are trained in all aspects of quality.
• To actively manage the daily performance of quality controllers with a view to development and continuous improvement.
• To participate in other areas of people management as agreed with the Quality Manager to include; Recruitment & Selection; Communication, etc.

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree in Food Related Subject, not essential but desirable
• 3-5 years’ experience as QA Manager on Food/Fresh Produce
• Good understanding of requirements of major multiples
• Ability to work in a busy environment meeting time/budget deadline
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Must have excellent leadership and management skills
